It’s all been said and done before

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

However many marketing conferences belt out the same future gazing yawn fests one thing remains true – someone somewhere has thought it and said it before you.

I think it might just come down to the fact that the things that never change are people and behaviour. As technologies emerge all around us they only ever reflect or become useful/popular because they help fulfil those many unchanging human attributes.

New technologies just whip up old questions.

I spotted this quote in the Rodchenko exhibition in the Tate Modern. It pre empts Nike + and more to the point every ‘utility’ conversation by about 88 years.

the click is dead!

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

We knew this, but its great that our friends at Starcom have done research into this and we can qoute a respectable media agency rather then some creative agency people….

Starcom, Tacoda and comScore’s “Natural Born Clickers” findings suggest “the click is dead” as go-to measurement of effectiveness for brand-building display advertising campaign

“Further preliminary Starcom data suggests no correlation between display ad clicks and brand metrics, and show no connection between measured attitude towards a brand and the number of times an ad for that brand was clicked. The research presentation suggests that when digital campaigns have a branding objective, optimizing for high click rates does not necessarily improve campaign performance.”

find out with fran: pareidolia

Friday, March 14th, 2008

Pareidolia:

There is an universal tendency among mankind to conceive all beings like themselves, and to transfer to every object, those qualities, with which they are familiarly acquainted, and of which they are intimately conscious. We find human faces in the moon, armies in the clouds; and by a natural propensity, if not corrected by experience and reflection, ascribe malice or good- will to every thing, that hurts or pleases us. –David Hume

A universal tendency eh. Brilliant.

marketing as a service

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

The people at Zeus are interesting, they started a company that sees Marketing as a Service, this is not a new idea, think of the Guide Michelin, but they have added technology. Some good qoutes from their client presentation:
“We need to use marketing as a chance to do things for people not an excuse to say things to them.”
“Ultimately doing something instead of saying something is actually a better way to communicate”
